Rhubarb Pie Capital of the World

Apples

It’s hard to compare apples to rhubarb. We’re definitely not the “big apple” capital like our neighbors in eastern Washington, but you can find fresh apples, or ways to celebrate fresh apples, around Sumner.

Season: Fall

How to enjoy: Start in Sumner as your core location and begin peeling off adventures from there. Cockrell Hard Cider, located just out of town toward Puyallup, offers artisan cider and a weekend tasting room that’s located right IN a beautiful orchard. Check out the options for food trucks and live music too. Prefer a more urban setting? Top Down Brewing right on Sumner’s Main Street features an Imperial Semi Sweet Hard Cider that features apples.

Maris Farms lets you blast apples, giving the whole family the chance to have, well, a blast! There’s also an apple gun at Knutson Farms as part of The Patch.

Is baking with apples more your speed? Find places to buy fresh apples including the Puyallup Farmer’s Market (through mid-October) or local farm stands.

Pairs Well With:

  • Updated fall clothes to wear to the orchard! Try Kissed by Chloe, Bayabelle Boutique, Jojo & Coco’s or Mode Boutique for updated fall style.
  • Prefer to take a few photos and leave the baking and cooking to someone else? Eat in one of Sumner’s restaurants and simply enjoy your time on the farms.
  • We know Washington has the Apple Cup, but every home football game in Sumner is like Friday Night Lights. This year, try out the Tailgate Parties at Township 20 for a full-on small-town fall football vibe.
